Rotary Reads
The Shepherdstown Rotary Club, in cooperation with the Shepherdstown Library and Shepherdstown Day Care, participates in a literacy project designed to encourage local children to spend more time reading. Children from the Day Care Center meet at the Library for an introduction to the Childrens' Library and to be introduced to their “Reading Mentor” from the Rotary Club. The Mentor and Student then walk to "Four Seasons Books" on German Street, where they select and purchase a book for the Student. After reading together for an hour at the War Memorial Building, the Student keeps the book as a reward for their efforts.
The cooperation of the Shepherdstown Rotary, Shepherdstown Library, Shepherdstown Day Care Center, Four Seasons Books, and the Shepherdstown Men’s Club make this support of literacy possible. It serves as an example of Community Groups cooperating and pooling resources to assist one another in combined projects.
